Delter Press: Our favorite Aeropress alternative

When it comes to manual coffee brewing methods, the AeroPress has reigned supreme for many years. Its small size, ease of use and ability to produce a clean, flavorful cup of coffee have attracted coffee enthusiasts around the world. However, the coffee world is constantly evolving and new innovations are emerging that challenge the status quo. One such contender is the Delter Press, a unique and innovative coffee brewer that has quickly become our favorite alternative to the AeroPress. In this post, we'll delve into the Delter Press and tell you why it's our favorite alternative.

What is Delter Press?

Delter Press is a compact and elegant coffee brewer designed for those who appreciate simplicity and quality coffee brewing. It was created by Trinity One, and its design mirrors the Aeropress that everyone has known for many years. However, it is not true that it is a poor copy that will never catch up with the original. We already explain why.

Unique brewing method: Delter Press uses a unique brewing method. It involves complete control over how long our ground coffee will be in contact with water. When we pour the water in from the top of the brewer, the water is not in contact with the coffee and the brewing process has not yet begun. Only when we raise the internal plunger, the two-way seal at the end of the plunger lets the water pass through so that it can enter the chamber with the ground coffee. This process gives us more control than with the Aeropress, because we decide how much and how long the coffee is in contact with the water.

Increased capacity: Thanks to a two-way seal called Jet Seal we can add more water, unlike the Aeropress, where the water limit is imposed by design. We can fit up to 30 grams of coffee in the Delter's coffee chamber, which means we can use 500 ml of water and get a brew for two people.

Simplicity and portability: Like the AeroPress, the Delter Press is compact in size, making it ideal for those who travel frequently. Its minimalist yet sturdy design means it will fit in any bag or backpack.

Easy to clean: Cleaning the Delter Press is child's play. Just open the lower chamber where the coffee is located, push the coffee grounds into the basket along with the used paper filter and rinse the whole thing with water. After discarding the grounds, we can also pour in the water as if we were brewing and squeeze the plunger to create pressure, which will further help with washing everything.

Versatility: The Delter Press design allows you to experiment. You can easily adjust the grind level, water temperature and brewing time to get your perfect cup of coffee. We felt the coffees from the Delter had a flavor profile between the Aeropress and the Hario V60 dripper.

Affordability: Delter Press is affordable. You may say - "but Aeropress is cheaper". Yes you are right, the basic version of the Aeropress is cheaper, while if we compare the price of the Delter and the Aeropress XL, which recently entered the world market, at this point Delter wins this duel.

How to use Delter Press:

  1. Place the filter in the Delter's lid and rinse with hot water, then pour out the water.
  2. Turn the brewer over and pour freshly ground coffee into the coffee chamber directly over the nozzle seal (shake gently to even out the coffee layer). Screw on the lid.
  3. Once the piston is fully inserted, place the Delter on the cup and start pouring hot water into the brewing chamber. You can use the measuring cup on the side of the brewer or use a scale.
  4. Insert the silicone dispensing cap into the end of the piston. Raise the plunger to the 50 ml level and slowly press down to activate the water and coffee contact.
  5. Gently depress the plunger to start the preinfusion process.
  6. Raise the plunger again so that there is 100 ml of water in the body and place the lid on the plunger.
  7. After 30 seconds, press the plunger.
  8. Slide the plunger out again to pour in the remaining water and push the plunger all the way in.
  9. If you brew a larger amount of coffee, you can pour the water again and repeat the brewing steps by skipping the preinfusion

While the AeroPress is a tried and true favorite for many people, the Delter Press offers a refreshing alternative that simplifies the brewing process and consistently delivers great coffee. Its innovative design, ease of use and the clean taste of the resulting cup have made it our favorite alternative to the Aeropress. If you are a coffee lover who appreciates a unique cup of coffee and a minimalist, easy-to-clean brewing device, the Delter Press could become your new way of brewing coffee. Try it out and you may find that it will elevate your experience to a whole new level.
