There were coffees from Ethiopia, Asia, and America. So what is Papua New Guinea Sigri like?

Sigri Plantation, located in the Wahgi Valley in Papua New Guinea's Western Highlands province, was established in the 1950s and quickly gained a reputation that continues to grow, with Sigri being recognized worldwide as a gourmet coffee producer equal to the best in the world. All of the plantings there are exclusively Arabica, focusing on the Jamaica Blue Mountain variety imported from Jamaica. Also, if we have a great desire to discover what real Jamaican coffee so prized by many gourmets tastes like, we can choose Papua New Guinea as our next coffee.

The farm is located at an altitude of more than 1,500 meters above sea level, and the main harvest takes place from May to July. All cultivation and processing practices follow a system that has been refined over many years and emphasizes the highest standards and quality of the coffee obtained.

Grains from the Sigri region undergo a wet process. Quality control begins at the harvest stage. The cherries are hand-picked and carefully checked for uniformity - they must be red and fully ripe, allowing the correct balance of the final flavor in the cup. Selected fruits are already separated from the grain on the day of harvest and fermented. The fermentation process takes three days, punctuated every 24 hours with a rinse. Unlike other coffees that undergo a washing process, the Sigri-grown coffee completes the process with a complete immersion in water for another day to equalize the final moisture level between batches of coffee. Extended sun-drying of the coffee further improves its final flavor and preserves its freshness for longer. The coffee is then carefully husked, hand-sorted and packed as quickly as possible so as not to lose the qualities that affect its final flavor.

Coffee from Papua New Guinea offers a unique and distinctive flavor profile, reflecting the country's diverse growing regions and cultivation practices. Its flavor is a result of the region's rich volcanic soil, high altitudes and the unique characteristics of the Arabica coffee beans grown there. The combination of bright acidity, juicy fruitiness, floral aromas and subtle nutty notes make PNG coffee a unique and unforgettable experience.
